Mechanical Training With ATP Increased Throwing Velocity +7 MPH In Two Weeks
There are so many ways to address someone’s needs in a throwing program. Here is a case study of a remote programming client seeing good results with his training, but needing some tinkering with his throwing mechanics.
Kaito, highlighted here, is using 9oz balls to repattern his arm action and load. As you can see in the video, his hand goes from below his elbow at ffc to above and there are significant changes in his hip: shoulder separation.
As we progress, there are other mechanical changes we will address, but for the time being, we will continue to push Kaito’s new mechanical changes as well as lock in his velocity gains. His previous mound velo was 84mph, but with his recent changes in mechanics and fixing issues with his force-velocity curve, we know he mid-90s in the tank.

Sammy Added +13 MPH To His Exit Velocity in 4 Months
Sammy Stafura, free content user, says, “Following the Instagram pages for Dr. Heenan, the 90 mph formula, and ATP has had major impacts on every aspect of my baseball ability. The exercises, formulas, and all the knowledge they provide helped me get significantly stronger, faster, more powerful, and my arm strength has seen major improvements. I cannot thank you guys enough for all the quality content you provide.”

Andrew Matthews, St. Lawrence University Baseball, Increased Mound Velocity From 82 to 88 MPH In 8 Months
At 6’2” 240lbs Andrew only topped out at 84mph with sub-par mechanics. The first thing we looked at was his mobility and relative strength as it relates to performance on the field. Andrew started with the ATP team in May. He’s now topping at 88 on the mound. Here is how we use the 90 mph formula to assess and progress our athletes in the gym and on the mound.

Jordan is a few months of hard work away from hitting the formula and throwing 90+. He is committed to D1 Saint Peters University for his last two years of eligibility.

Austin Atwood, Eastside Diamond Hoppers, 78 to 98 MPH In A Year
10/8/18 #90mphformula Metrics:
Height/Weight: 5’8” 148lbs
Height Coefficient: 2.17
Deadlift: 325lbs x1
BW Chin-up: 10
Reverse Lunge: 135lbs x1
Long Toss: 270ft
Run and Gun velocity: 78mph
10/25/19 #90mphformula Metrics:
Height/Weight: 5’8” 192lbs
Height Coefficient: 2.82
Deadlift: 445lbs x1
BW Chin-up: 25 reps
Reverse Lunge: 315lbs x1
Long Toss: 360ft
Run and Gun velocity: 98mph
We initially discussed the big wins for Austin.
1) Bodyweight needed to dramatically increase if he wants to have the potential of throwing hard to increase.
2) “Athleticism” needs to increase. This is not to say he was not athletic, but with a long toss that is likely mid-high 80s out of the hand, his timing and mechanics need to sync up better as long toss velocity and run and gun should almost always sync up.
3) Strength needs to increase— Dramatically!
Let’s break this down a bit further:
-We average 2-4mph of velocity gained for every 10lbs gained using our system. Austin gained 2.2mph for every 10lbs gained- well within our averages.
-Austin invested a total of $900 in our remote services. This works out to be $45 for every MPH gained or ~$20 for every pound of mass gained.
I’m obviously confident in how well our programming works since it breaks down the needs of each individual and then systematically attacks them. However, I cannot control their willingness to attack their training and nutrition. Austin has put a tremendous effort in to achieve all that he has earned.

Joe Pedulla, Gordon College Baseball, Increased His Mound Velocity From 80 To 86 MPH In 18 Months
Joe joined ATP as a remote client over a year ago. Since then he has seen his velocity rise from a high of 80mph to 86mph. He is currently a senior at Gordon College. Joe says, about his time training with ATP, “Training with Dr. Heenan has been a huge change for me. It’s motivating to know that everything is done with purpose and my weaknesses are being targeted. I used to put plans together that really had no structure, and I now enter the gym with full confidence that I’m getting better. Everything from the warmup to the 8-10 hours of sleep is absolutely essential as well. The program works so well if you do everything else correctly: eat, sleep, hydrate, etc. One of the biggest ways that this program has helped me, as I start my throwing program to build up for the fall, is that it is allowing me to be in much more touch with my body’s biomechanics during a throw, and my proprioceptive abilities are greatly escalating. I am way more able to make adjustments from pitch to pitch because I have a type of feel for my lower half that I didn’t have before.”
